Job Description:
I. Purpose:Give emotionally, behaviorally, and learning disabled students a learning environment that will enhance their social and academic functioning.
Requirements:

A. Bachelors Degree
B. Work independently and meet deadlines
C. South Dakota Special Education Teacher endorsement
D. Experience and training for work with troubled students.
E. Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the client population.
III. Responsible To: Special Education Director
IV. Hours and Schedule: 40 hour week; 12 month school calendar
V. Principal Accountabilities:
A. Carefully assess and respond to the therapeutic and educational needs of the students as these occur in the classroom or as a response to the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
B. Provide opportunities for the student to learn and improve social skills using the motivation system and teaching interactions, both positive and negative, and recording points earned on youth cards at the time of teachings.
C. Work cooperatively with teachers and other positions within the Program in developing and implementing individualized treatment planning.
D. Provide for the growth and development of each student through by directing them in matters of personal conduct, hygiene, appearance, social skills, and work habits.
E. Participate in treatment team and staff meetings whenever possible. Submit reports and documentation in a timely manner.
F. Provide for the safety and well being of the students through the appropriate use of discipline, crisis intervention, knowledge, and supervision of all students during school hours.
G. Provide continuity and progress of the student’s grade placement status with home school districts through maintenance of credits and provision of required academic courses. Maintain cooperative and coordinated programs with local public school districts, including regular contact with teachers and administrators.
H. Enable parents and other significant adults to become constructively involved in each student’s educational/treatment plan.
I. Other duties assigned by the Agency administration.
