DESCRIPTION

Black Top Paving, a division of Journey Group, started in the 1950’s with the advent of the Interstate Highway System and growing need for paved roads in and around Sioux Falls. We continue to be a full-service paver including driveways, parking lots and roads.  We are looking for a Project Engineer/Estimator to assist with our growing division.


Job Summary


Will assist the leadership team in the daily operation of an asphalt crew. Cultivate a high performing team while meeting customer quality standards. A team member of an asphalt team to work injury-free/incident free in a continuous road construction environment consistent with management philosophy and framework. Work in conjunction with other team members that drive improvement in all associated work processes affecting environmental, health, & safety compliance, reliability, quality, production and costs. Support the work process system to align and optimize the division by delivering a valued product to the customer. Assist the team in development and growth, employee skill development, problem-solving and resolution, building employee commitment and ownership and holding other team members accountable

REQUIREMENTS
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•Perform basic to complex takeoffs on plans (SDDOT, Cities, private work)
•Collaborate with potential clients and customer to review project
•Perform field measurements on private clients projects and document site
•Negotiate agreement terms, manage construction contract drafts, bid on projects, and obtain permits to analyze and mitigate risks.
•Perform site visits and evaluations
•Manage subcontractors and our work on projects
•Communicate with Project Manager to establish workload and job forecasts

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of asphalt or civil construction. A degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Civil Engineering. A minimum of 1 years of experience working with asphalt or civil construction. Strong knowledge of asphalt materials, processes and equipment is required. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents and plan sets.
