The Underwriting Consultant evaluates life insurance applications in a timely manner, applying Company guidelines to ensure fairness to the proposed insured, the agent and the company while promoting additional sales of quality business.  Support, train, and coach the case managers and underwriters to ensure consistent, fair and timely case handling.

  • 4 year college degree or equivalent industry related experience
  • At least 6 years of life insurance underwriting with high performance
  • Special knowledge and experience in Life Underwriting and selection of medical and non-medical risk factors and the ability to apply these factors in reaching the most favorable underwriting decision
  • Professional designation - FLMI, FALU, CLU or other designation acceptable to management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills which show a high degree of tact and persuasiveness in dealing with customers that have resulted in retention of quality agents and increased production
  • Excellent decision making skills with the ability to solve problems innovatively to find ‘win-win’ solutions
  • Self-starter with excellent teamwork skills; ability to work independently to accomplish work goals and a willingness to sacrifice personal goals to help achiever overall team success
  • Superior ability to listen and be responsive to customers and who can sell difficult decisions while showing empathy
  • Desire and ability to effectively work with diverse personalities
  • Proven behaviors consistent with Company Values:  Openness, Integrity, Accountability, and Respect
  • Ability to be open to coaching and constructive feedback to become more effective and improve performance
  • Ability to conduct presentations and travel as needed to participate in agency meetings
  • FINRA regulations require fingerprinting for this position.  Management reserves the right to determine and approve incumbent suitability for this position
  • Due to the financial nature and level of accountability of this position, a credit and criminal background check is required
