Job Summary:   The Controls Engineer is responsible for the engineering and design of Control Systems as well as all maintenance and PLC/SCADA/HMI programming.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Completes control system engineering and design and collaborates with vendors.
  2. Selection of appropriate instrumentation and control system components.
  3. Provides PLC/SCADA/HMI programming for manufacturing machines.
  4. Troubleshoots, installs and commissions products and systems.
  5. Project management as assigned.
  6. Performs other work related duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility. 
  3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
  4. Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  5. Three or more years of related experience; or Associate’s Degree (A.A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year technical school with six or more years of related work experience. 
    Candidates without a degree require related work or industry experience.
  6. Experience with instrumentation and controls design as well as PLC/HMI programming.
  7. Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and their associated controls.
    Sound understanding of control system architectures and computer systems; as well as knowledge of PLC programs and ladder logic.
  8. Experience with project management, covering initial concept/proposal, design, implementation, testing, start-up, and closeout.
  9. Ability to learn and become proficient in our internal hardware and software systems. 
  10. Function specific RCRA training upon hire.
  11. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  12. Ability to work both independently and with other employees as part of a team.

  1. Ability to talk and hear in order to communicate with others.
  2. Seated work up to 90% of the workday.
  3. Extensive computer use is required. 
  4. Occasionally required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel as well as reach with hands and arms.
  6. Lifting of 10 pounds is required.  Must be able to move materials by lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds rarely, and may use assistance.
  7. Bending, squatting, or kneeling is required in order to move materials or perform other duties such as filing, etc. 
  8. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  9. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  10. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility. 
  11. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD).  Employees must also wear company issued safety shoes.
