Pheasantland Industries (PI) is a state program within the South Dakota Department of Corrections. The focus of the Correctional Industries program is to increase employment opportunities for inmates by producing high quality goods and services for other state agencies, local governments and non-profit organizations. Pheasantland Industries is designed to enhance an inmate's ability to lead a productive life while incarcerated and upon release from prison. Prison Shops are located at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, Mike Durfee State Prison, and the Women's Prison with the main business office on the campus of the State Penitentiary. The Director of Pheasantland Industries is responsible for the oversight of Industry operations.

Other key duties include fiscal management, marketing, program development and community outreach. This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act. Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A bachelor's degree in business or equivalent years of experience is preferred. Five years management experience is preferred.

Knowledge of: planning procedures; delegating tasks; program development; task facilitation; financial administration such as comprehensive analysis of programs, budgets, projects, services, alternatives, and costs; financial planning, revenue generation, revenue forecasting, expenditure forecasting, cash flow management and establishing internal control; operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations typically through subordinate supervisors. Ability to: negotiate contracts; recommend and justify programs content, costs and selected contractor; develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures; communicate effectively with the Department of Corrections Senior Leadership; express and present thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely; analyze opportunities and provide solutions to ensure Pheasantland Industries' sustainability and growth; prepare and control industrial budget; analyze cost, sales and revenue figures and projections; conduct cost/benefit studies on industry operations; review pricing policies and estimate future capital needs; make public presentations to large groups of people; represent Pheasantland Industries by being active and visible in the community and working closely with other state agencies, local governments and nonprofit organizations; supervise correctional and private industry personnel to ensure compliance with program policies and procedures; create and implement plans for developing new industries and expanding on existing ones; develop and maintain a reporting system that includes cost records, marketing recommendations for sales goals, production costs and revenue projections.
