Job Description

The Catholic parishes located on the eastside of Sioux Falls are seeking a lifelong Catholic missionary disciple to serve in the role of Director of Youth Ministry.  The Director of Youth Ministry, Eastside is responsible for providing youth ministry to the Pastorates located in the Eastside of the Sioux Falls metro area including, Pastorates 20, 22, and 23. The goal is to assist the youth in developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, in their daily life, to encourage life-long learning, and participation in the faith. To provide a sound knowledge base about the Catholic faith, a love for the Catholic Church, and foster the belief that service is an integral part of discipleship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Regularly engage in ecclesiastical or religious activities that serve to convey the message of the Catholic Church, carry out its mission and attend to the religious needs of the faithful as called for in the doctrine, teachings and traditions of the Catholic faith.
  • Organize and supervise small groups at individual churches within the participating Pastorates to foster connections for young people.
  • Form and supervise adult lay volunteers to run church-level small groups.
  • Organize and direct events and activities for the Eastside of the Sioux Falls metro area that convey the message of the Catholic Church.
  • Develop 2-3 yearly retreats and trips that carry out the mission of the Catholic Church.
  • Organize, promote, and participate in defined Pastorates and Sioux Falls Diocesan events and opportunities— including liturgies, festivals, etc.—that teach the doctrine, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic faith.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of communication systems with youth’s families, the youth, and the Eastside Pastorate Pastors and office staff.
  • The development, maintenance, communication, and execution of a twelve-month calendar, record keeping, metrics tracking, activity/event evaluations, budgeting, and fundraising.
  • Create an attitude of service among the youth participating in the Eastside Youth Ministry program by proactively seeking service opportunities by monitoring city, statewide, and national current events.
  • Work collaboratively with the Westside Youth Minister to achieve citywide participation and planning for citywide lock-ins, annual concerts, fundraising, and nationally focused events/conferences, such as the annual Steubenville youth conference, distinctive national conferences (e.g. National Eucharistic Congress).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Eastside Youth Minister’s immediate supervisor and Pastors of the participating Pastorates.

Essential Qualifications:

Primary:

  • Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
  • Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education or Theology, or National Credential in Youth Ministry, or background in theology and education methodologies.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience showing increased growth in organizational leadership skills.

Other Elements:

  • Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community.
  • Knowledge of all Diocesan Guidelines and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An understanding and working knowledge of all desktop applications included in the Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and various web applications.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment to think strategically, multitask, and conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.
  • Proven communication skills, and ability to work effectively with a wide-range of individuals while maintaining strict confidentiality.

The employee will work with a large number of individuals within the Eastside Pastorates, often requiring multitasking, and working with deadlines, and details to ensure all of the essential functions are performed in a timely and courteous manner.
