General Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks. Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, etc.). Performs general cleaning and other tasks as assigned. This is a full-time, nonexempt hourly position, with rotating, on call hours. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. 

Essential Functions

  • Provides janitorial services within the building, such as: basic plumbing repairs, electrical work, change light bulbs, residential trash removal, equipment repairs, and floor care.
  • Works with other personnel in vacating rooms and readying a room for a new admission. Paint, remodel, refurbish areas as needed.  
  • Maintain property exterior and grounds. Includes mowing, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Cares for outdoor equipment and vehicle maintenance.
  • Works with Maintenance Supervisor on maintenance of heating and cooling systems and fire protection and alarm systems. Change of all air filters for HVAC is required.
  • Transports individuals to the hospital, clinics, medical appointments, and outings as needed.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor as needed throughout the year in various special projects or seasonal activities and functions.
  • May be assigned to lead projects, work details and facility maintenance where the supervision of maintenance personnel is required.
  • Proficient with both the fire and disaster plans for all areas of the property. Assists in conducting fire drills and disaster drills as needed.
  • Is dependable in reporting to work and is on time and ready for work when the shift begins.
  • Reports any work-related accidents and/or injuries to the supervisor or business office immediately. Maintains safety at all times.

  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job–related hazards.
  • Follows exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by Bethel management and peers.

EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • A high school degree or its equivalent is required.
  • Vo-Tech education in plumbing, HVAC, Electrician or Carpentry is preferred. Ability and desire to be creative in adapting programs and supplies to meet individual resident needs.   

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and carpentry.
  • Required to have experience and responsibility in a maintenance field, preferably facility maintenance and/or long-term care maintenance.
  • Familiar with local building codes and OSHA regulations. Familiar with all current health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the facility.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, customer service oriented.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated and able to multitask.  
  • Ability to work well with ever-changing priorities and or situations.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language

ESSENTIAL – PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently required stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Frequently required to bend, kneel, squat, twist or climb.
  • Moderate concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort with limited opportunity for breaks.
  • Normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information.
  • Must have adequate eyesight and hearing to safely operate motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Must maintain a current SD Driver’s license at all times.
  • Moderate level of complexity for decision making

WAGE -  DOE:  $15.00 - $18.00/hr
