As an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, you must be able to:


Develop classroom and hands-on training materials specific to the EHS department. You will also be required to give training sessions on these topics ;



  • Contribute to the development and implementation of action plans, procedures and policies regarding EHS: industrial hygiene, machine safety, work at heights, rigging, emergency measures, etc.;

  • Work closely with the different people involved (employees, supervisors, technical staff, sub-contractors, etc.) in order to ensure safe working practices that comply with laws and standards;

  • Conduct inspections and audits in order to identify and evaluate EHS risks;

  • Assist in the investigation of industrial incidents and follow up with recommendations to the people involved;

  • Assist with managing medical cases and coordinating the employee’s return to work after an accident;

  • Advise and support the EHS Specialist and the managers with regard to EHS strategic goals and objectives;

  • Perform any other tasks related to EHS projects.

REQUIREMENTS
Passion for health and safety; a strong desire to serve others in an EHS capacity
Knowledge of EHS laws, rules and standards
Bachelor’s degree or College degree, in an EHS discipline or relevant to safety
Experience with the South Dakota’s Work Compensation program management and regulations

Valued skills:
Hands-on approach and ability to translate theory into practice
Participative approach and willingness to collaborate with employees
Ability to bring people together and to promote EHS objectives
Time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize based on need
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; tact and diplomacy

Assets:
2 to 3 years of experience in a similar position
Experience with risk analysis
Knowledge of industrial hygiene
Love of learning and spirit of continuous improvement.
