The President of the Good Samaritan Foundation will seek to provide leadership and management aspects for the implementation of an effective fund-raising strategy. This person will resource staff, finances and programs of the Foundation, all in close collaboration with the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.


-The President is expected to provide strong leadership, with the board chair and the Foundation Governance/Nominating Committee, in recruiting and developing an effective and diverse board of directors. He/she is to assist the board, as a major participant and resource, in the creation of vision and strategic plan. The President is responsible for effective management of a foundation investment committee, linked to the Good Samaritan Society’s investment committee.


 -Major responsibilities of this role are promoting the process of resource development within the Good Samaritan Society, representing both the Foundation and the Society, telling the Good Samaritan story and advancing its mission, in a variety of forums and venues. The President has the responsibility for effectively managing the Foundation’s interface with the Society, its staff, and external friends and relationships. He/she also must see to the identification and strengthening of relationships with others  critical to the Foundation’s success.


 -The President has responsibility for the design, development, and management of the Foundation and its resources, including staff, finances, technology, space and facilities, and all Foundation programs, projects and activities.


 -Providing leadership and management for the creation and effective execution of an appropriate fund-raising approach and strategy, including a national focus seeking major, multi-million-dollar gifts and grants is a highly significant part of the President’s responsibilities.


The core expectations of the Foundation’s President are to: 


-Provide effective leadership in securing new board members.


-Provide effective leadership in the organizational design of the Foundation and its implementation.


-Assist the Good Samaritan Society in the creation and management of an effective regional structure and related operations for organizational advancement.


-Manage the “Friends of the Society” organization.


-Personally, and in close cooperation and collaboration with others, open “new doors” and develop strong relationships with significant donors.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university required (Master’s preferred). A minimum of 5 years of experience in progressively responsible, development-related leadership positions, which includes work in the areas of individual major giving, capital campaigns and endowments. Major fundraising campaign and multi-million-dollar gift solicitation experience strongly preferred.

The President of the Foundation is expected to have a substantial, successful record of leadership and management expertise, ideally possessing 10-15 years of experience leading and managing a complex operation of similar size and scope.

Broad and deep experience in leading teams and making public presentations. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling and comprehensive to the potential donor. The ability to work productively with colleagues (i.e., Operations staff, volunteers, community groups and other related agencies) on behalf of the Foundation. The ability to organize and prioritize fundraising activities effectively and success in building high-performing volunteer boards.

Knowledge of the healthcare profession is helpful.
