The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for adhering, implementing, monitoring, verifying, validating, and writing procedures and processes that fall under the compliance umbrellas of SQF, HACCP, GMP, Food Safety & Quality in all areas of USDA/FDA labeling, manufacturing, warehousing. Supervisor will work closely with marketing, purchasing, production, existing and new suppliers during the development phases to ensure SQF, USDA, and FDA compliance. Maintains close communication with management teams on progress and issues that arise during the manufacturing day. QA Supervisor will maintain and promote a positive and team orientated attitude and be able to listen, guide, and teach in the aspects of food safety and quality.



Essential Functions



       Must be willing to learn and become knowledgeable in SQF, USDA/FDA regulations, CFIA, GMP's, Food Safety, HACCP & SSOPs as it pertains to manufacturing. This includes being fluent in USDA product release.


       Must become knowledgeable in USDA, FDA, CFIA, and SQF labeling requirements and regulations.


       Work with the varying QA technician positions to ensure SQF, USDA/FDA regulations, GMP's, Food Safety, HACCP & SSOPs are being implemented and followed.


       Work closely with the operations and warehouse teams to ensure SQF, USDA/FDA regulations, GMP's, Food Safety, HACCP & SSOPs are being implemented and followed.


       Maintain and upkeep supplier database.   Manage the generation and updating of nutritional information and production specifications.


       Manage the timely testing and evaluation of testing data of incoming raw materials, copacked goods and manufactured goods for quality parameters prior to use in the rooms or distribution.


       Communicate out of specification incoming raw materials, copacked goods and manufactured goods via statistical process analysis to QA and Production management.


       Daily walk through of the production rooms to observe the flow of the room and be able to communicate observations to QA and Production management, listen, guide, and teach in the aspects of food safety and quality.


       Organize and present data via excel and power point to QA and Production management for process deviations, process improvements and customer follow up based on process data and observations.


       When conducting and participating in daily production audits and monthly facility audits, ensures that GMPs, HACCP, Food Safety & Quality, SSOP(Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) & SQF standards are met, and followed in all areas of USDA/FDA manufacturing & warehousing as well as internal QA/QC standards


       Assists with implementation and development of new policies pertaining to SQF, USDA/FDA regulations, GMP's, Food Safety, HACCP & SSOPs.


       Will participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual program validations.


       Communicate and follow up with suppliers on product quality issues at incoming and manufacturing.


       Works with production teams on new product roll outs, including new supplier documentation, manufacturing statements and labeling procedures.


       Will be part of the Food Safety Interdepartmental Food Safety Training team and support the QA Manager in leading this group in developing and promoting the Orion Food Safety Culture.


       Demonstrate high organizational skills and excellence in planning, execution during tight timelines through project evaluation and available resources.


       Conducts employee performance appraisals. Rewards and disciplines employees. Supports and encourage Orion Food Systems policies and procedures.


       Poses excellent verbal and oral communication skills.


       Must be able to confidently use Microsoft office suite including spreadsheet generation, graphing, and power point.


       Any other duties deemed necessary by the Quality Assurance Management Team.


       Assists QA Manager, and Director of Quality Assurance with special projects.


       Provide backup duties for the Director of QA, QA Manager, QA Regulatory and Labeling Techs and the QA Compliance Specialist as it relates to the required tasks needed.


       Backup for this position is the QA Manager or Director of QA (SQF) or as needed.



  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Self-motivated, high standard of work ethics.

  • Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
