Summary of Position


The Recreation Center Associate works in conjunction with other Rec Center staff to provide recreational education and
program supervision for students and staff. This is a nonexempt position.


Accountability


Reports to the Recreation Center Coordinator.


Core Responsibilities


? Supports and models the Catholic Mission and the Native American Culture that are the foundations of St.
Joseph’s Indian School.
? Promotes a reclaiming environment for all students through the Circle of Courage.


Responsibilities


1. Develops and provides recreational education, including instruction and activities to students and staff.
2. Works directly with houseparents to help define and promote home recreational activities.
3. Supervises athletic programming and activities in conjunction with the Rec Center staff.
4. Assists the Rec Center Coordinator with bus transportation as required.
5. Assists with evening and weekend coverage of athletics and Rec Center programs.
6. Serves as coach, referee, lifeguard, etc. for sports sponsored by the Rec Center.
7. Defines, coordinates and supervises Wednesday Enrichment Night recreational component.
8. In conjunction with the Rec Center Coordinator, monitors the Rec Center facility to insure upkeep of the
facilities and equipment.
9. Assists Rec Center staff with the promotion of adult programs.
10. Works with the summer programs (i.e. camp and summer break homes), designing and coordinating
appropriate Rec Center programming.
11. Completes other responsibilities as required by the Rec Center Coordinator. Additional responsibilities may
include:
? -Teaching swimming lessons to students
? -Assisting with pool maintenance
? -Serving as the Rising Eagle Summer Camp Coordinator


Qualifications

? 4-year degree in related field preferred
? Experience in recreation, PE, or therapeutic recreation required
? Have a valid driver’s license
? The ability to acquire a South Dakota school bus driver’s license required (CDL Class 2)
? Will be required to become certified Lifeguard
? May be required to become a certified Lifeguard instructor
? May be required to become a Certified Pool Operator


Physical Demands


? Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
? Driving is required.
? Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods.


Expectations of Hours Worked


Sunday—10:00am to 6:30pm
Monday through Thursday—12:30pm to 9:00pm
Or
Saturday—10:00am to 6:30pm
Tuesday through Friday—12:30pm to 9:00pm
Subject to adjustment according to programming needs.
40 hours/week
