Work Schedule:   40 hours per week position requiring flexible schedule.


Provide therapeutic services to people supported in the West Oak program.

  • Programming

  1. Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to develop an individual habilitation plan (ISP) for each person supported.

  2. Provide individual and group counseling services.

  3. Review information regarding the social, educational and emotional histories of each person supported.

  4. Ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained and that all needed releases are obtained before information is shared.

  5. Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to develop and implement effective behavior intervention plan.

  6. Participate in staffing with consulting psychiatrist/psychologist.

  • Organization

  1. Provide education for other team members in implementing behavior management plans.

  2. Review daily logs regarding people supported.

  3. Ensure consistent and timely communication with Interdisciplinary Team members regarding people supported.

  4. Provide on-site mentoring to Direct Support Staff.

  5. Responsible for other duties as negotiated.

  • Funding

  1. Responsible for all clinical notation and historical documentation of the people supported.

  • Community Awareness

  1. Maintain an atmosphere that is person centered and outcome driven.

  • Ministry

  1. Follow and promote VOA core values and share in the mission of ministry set forth by VOA founders.



Education: Master’s degree in counseling or social work, and a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience with adolescent/adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and challenging behaviors.                                                                                                                                                               

Experience:  Expertise in counseling and effective therapeutic techniques required; experience with sexuality, offending and abuse issues is strongly preferred.                                                                                                         

Skills:  Excellent communication skills                                                                                                                                                                                            

Certifications & Licenses:  Must have license to bill Medicaid per ARSD 67:16:41:03 or willing to obtain such licenses. If the candidate is wanting to obtain license and is requesting to be supervised by an agency staff, further arrangements may be made.
