Salary: $55,369.60 to $69,222.40 (DOE)

Schedule: Monday through Friday - 7:00AM to 3:00PM - Year-round School

Position Overview:

The Loving School at Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a 4th Grade Classroom Teacher to plan instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to individual student’s social, emotional, and academic learning goals. . What You Will Do:
  • Academic Instruction: Plan instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals. Implement Agency-identified curriculum. Communicate clear learning goals and a high level of expectation to all students. Conduct and utilize on-going assessments for learning.
  • IEP Management: Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Schools to case manage student individual education programs (IEP) to meet specialized needs of students with disabilities.
  • Classroom Rules: Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students. Enforce rules.
  • Classroom Procedures: Follow all procedures including having all materials, equipment, etc., ready for timely use. Implement smooth and effective transitions (e.g., from one activity to another, from one location to another, as students enter and leave the room). Introduce academic and social learning goals and objectives.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Communicate and collaborate with all colleagues, inclusive of parents/guardians, social workers, therapists, etc. Provide leadership in efforts to improve the school environment, teaching practices, student learning, student behavior, social skills, and overall safety. Complete required paperwork on time and accurately. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing professional growth.
  • Compliance: Follow Agency and School Policies and Procedures. Support of Agency Goals. Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.

Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education is Required.
  • Master's Degree and/or Special Education Endorsement is Preferred

Licensure:
  • Possession of a valid South Dakota Teaching Certificate Required.
  • A Special Education Certification Endorsement is Preferred.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Classroom environment focused on the instruction of children with emotional and behavioral issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
