The Department of Transportation-Division of Finance and Management is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to fill an Accountant position in Pierre, SD. This position is part of the Accounting/Auditing career family. The opportunity for career growth exists in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities: This position will work with the Accounting Division. This position will ensure all construction project activity is properly coded, funded, and reimbursed; provide expertise on Federal code and regulations dealing with federal funding on projects; provide technical expertise dealing with matching funds on federal projects; advise Department leadership on new or revised Federal rules; interpret and apply Federal rules, regulations, and policies; provide technical expertise on a variety of complex issues dealing with federal funding; assist with improper payment reviews; review and approve the Cash Management report dealing with Federal funds; review and approve the Federal highway bill; and complete and approve Federal finals.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge:
- governmental fund accounting;
- generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP) standards and generally accepted accounting standards board (GASB) statements;
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Query and other desktop tools.
Skills:
- interpret rules and regulations;
- communicate effectively with all levels in the agency, counties, cities, and Federal Highway personnel;
- gather, interpret, report, and use information concerning assigned activities.
Abilities:
- attend to all details of the assignment and complete work accurately;
- exercise sound prompt judgement;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Position Requirements:
Will consider an Accountant I-II. Accountant II level will require a 4-year Accounting degree with 1-2 years of accounting experience.
Compensation: The total compensation of Hourly Wage + State/Federal Benefits for a typical year for entry level Accountant is approximately $77,592.24 annually.
