The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office is hiring certified officers for part-time positions at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport to perform armed security work and provide protection for the airport’s terminals, customer, staff, and property. Must possess a current SD Law Enforcement Certification.
Salary: $30.00/Hourly
PLUS:
$1.00 shift differential for night shift
PLUS:
Time and half for shifts worked on holidays
Double time for shifts worked on Thanksgiving and Christmas
Shifts Available Throughout the Week:
3:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
12:00 p.m. – Last Departure
1:30 p.m. – Last Departure

How You Will Make an Impact:
Provide certified law enforcement protection and security for the general public by maintaining an observable and accessible presence at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. Provide law enforcement support to the airlines, vendors, tenants, passengers, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) passenger screening operations. Perform armed foot patrol inside the airport. Identify illegal or suspicious activities. Identify individuals loitering or observing Screening Checkpoint security procedures. Respond to incidents and emergency situations. Mediate disputes. Initiate arrests as necessary. Conduct investigations. Interview victims and witnesses. Gather evidence. Question and, when necessary, apprehend passengers possessing weapons or improvised explosive devices at the Screening Checkpoint. Verify identification of all armed law enforcement officers and Federal Flight Deck Officers who are flying in the performance of their duties. Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for information and/or assistance from the public. Complete and maintain accurate records and reports concerning crimes, incidents, information, etc. Provide testimony when required. Attend meetings and ongoing training.
What You Need to Succeed in this Role:
High school diploma or GED, a current South Dakota Law Enforcement Certification, and one year of relevant work experience. Must be a minimum of age 21 at the time of hiring. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Must successfully complete firearm safety training and the qualifications process including requalifying annually. Ability to develop and retain skill in the use of firearms and weapons and maintain qualification. Ability to reasonably and appropriately apply firearm and safe training to situations that arise while in the course of performing the duties of a part-time Airport Deputy Sheriff. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must maintain ability to be a credible witness in court. Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly and with tact and impartiality. Ability to learn and apply the policies and procedures of law enforcement operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Experience working in a similar environment and knowledge of civil laws, basic computer skills, and good interpersonal relation skills is helpful.
