Schedule: dependent on your college requirements.

Position Overview:

Children's Home Shelter for Family Safety, a program of Children's Home Society in Sioux Falls, SD is currently seeking summer interns to support victims of domestic violence by providing care for adult shelter clients as well as crisis intervention and follow-up for non-shelter clients, and/or working with a team to provide a safe and welcoming environment for children coming from abusive situations. What You Will Do:
  • Assist in responding to needs of clients, crisis telephone calls, drop-in counseling sessions, shelter assessments, shelter intakes and departures.
  • Perform assigned casework duties.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other service agencies.
  • Assist in maintaining vigilant supervision of children.
  • Assist with preparing and serving meals and snacks.
  • Assist in keeping shelter clean and orderly.
  • Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Currently enrolled in a 4 year program working towards a bachelor's degree in a Human Services field.
  • Must be 21 years or older


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Environment focused on the care of individuals in crisis situations. Employee is regularly required to bend and sit on the floor with children. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Must successfully complete all required background and pre-employment checks EEO/AA.
