What You Will Do: Implement a variety of wildlife resources management projects such as planting crops for food plots, trees, and grass/forb mixtures, prescribe fire, public land signing and spraying weeds to comply with management plans designed to maintain and enhance wildlife habitat areas owned and managed by the department. Maintain roads and trails, vehicles and equipment; and prepares and maintain reports of work accomplished.

Licenses and Certifications: - Class A CDL drivers license
- South Dakota pesticide applicators license.
- FFT2
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries or equivalent degree and/or experience is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- facility maintenance skills such as plumbing, electrical repair, carpentry, and painting;
- farming and harvesting methods and growing seasons;
- seed, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides;
- farm tractors and implements and their functions;
- tree storage, planting procedures, and maintenance;
- noxious weeds;
- weed spray, methods of application, and spraying equipment;
- native grasses and forbs;
- diagnostic and repair methods for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment;
- welding;
- safe-operating guidelines for equipment;
- fence-building;
- purchasing processes such as ordering from contracts, contacting local vendors for bids.
Ability to:
- implement management plans provided by resource biologist;
- use basic Windows software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- use GIS software including ArcMap and Survey123 and Collector;
- organize and prioritize projects on a long- and short-term basis and calculate time, equipment, and manpower needs;
- operate a variety of farm tractors and implements;
- use a variety of hand and power tools;
- clearly provide work direction to others;
- delegate work to others based on evaluation of their capabilities;
- handle chemicals safely;
- identify tree and weed species by sight;
- diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions and determine the most cost effective resolution;
- communicate sufficiently to resolve conflicts with staff, the public, and landowners.
