Position Summary
A controller in an agricultural or manufacturing company is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations of the organization. Their primary role is to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain financial controls, and support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage the annual budgeting process. Provide financial forecasts and projections to support planning and decision-making.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis and performance evaluations, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities. Present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Cost Management: Monitor and analyze costs, expenses, and variances. Identify areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Cash Flow Management: Manage cash flow, including monitoring cash inflows and outflows, maintaining appropriate cash reserves, and optimizing working capital.
- Audit and Compliance: Coordinate and oversee financial audits, both internal and external. Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and reporting requirements.
- Team Leadership: Manage the accounting and finance team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. Provide guidance and support to team members.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management in developing and implementing financial strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Financial Systems and Processes: Evaluate and optimize financial systems and processes. Implement improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity.
- Human Resources: Coordinate and supervise outsourced payroll and HR resource.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with increasing levels of responsibility. Experience in the agricultural or manufacturing industry is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards (such as GAAP).
- Prior experience working with QuickBooks is a plus.
- Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems. Experience with advanced Excel functions is often required.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as controllers often interact with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory agencies
