JOB SUMMARY
The City of Sioux Falls is hiring the Director of Siouxland Libraries. Siouxland Libraries aims to serve the needs of its customers by expanding minds, building community, and inspiring curiosity. We strive to promote a lifelong love of reading, learning, and literacy.
The Director of Siouxland Libraries bears ultimate responsibility for the overall operation, administration, and function of Siouxland Libraries, its branches, outreach, bookmobile, and digital services and for providing library services to the citizens of the City of Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
There shall be delegated to the holder of the Office of Director of Siouxland Libraries the following executive and administrative duties and functions in which the public has an interest and for which the holder of said office shall bear ultimate responsibility:
Direct the management, operation, planning, promotion, and delivery of a comprehensive program of library service for the City of Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County.
Responsible for assembling and maintaining a viable collection of print and digital materials, together with a program of services and events that meet the educational, recreational, and informational needs of the community.
Direct the enforcement of Library Board policies and rules, City Council ordinances and policies, state laws, and regulation within the library facilities and grounds.
Direct the development of Library Board policies, prepare the state annual report for board approval, and lead library plans including, but not limited to, the Strategic Plan and the Technology Plan. Attend Board meetings as an ex-officio member and secretary, prepare agenda items, carry out the assignments and general policies of the Board, and coordinate Library Board responsibilities and efforts with the Sioux Falls City Council and the Minnehaha County Commission.
Work with other City department directors and staff to ensure understanding and support of Library needs within the City’s organization and collaborate with other departments to understand and support their role within the broad context of City policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Minnehaha County Commission, the Cities of Baltic, Brandon, Colton, Crooks, Garretson, Hartford, Humboldt, and Valley Springs, and the Brandon Valley School District in support of library service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a master’s degree in library science and eight (8) years of increasingly responsible public library experience of which three (3) years must have been in an administrative capacity, preferably as a library director or assistant library director in a similar size or larger library; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.

The City participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive a 6% match. Additionally, employees may choose to enroll in a Deferred Compensation Plan.
