Job Description
OBJECTIVE:
The Grow Finish Production Intern will learn all aspects of wean to market production. They will apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to real life situations and will work alongside our Production Consultants and Physician Assistants.
Internship will take place between May-August 2025.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties as assigned)
- Work directly with veterinarians to help identify root causes of diseases through sample collection and on-farm assessment.
- Work directly with swine wean to market production and livestock team members to provide support and industry expertise.
- Accompany current team members to site visits, to ensure proper care to animals and site management is occurring. Evaluate, educate, and document findings.
- Demonstrate how to manage overall health and production of pigs.
- Foster effective relationships with internal and external customers.
- Execute and implement strategies to achieve production and economic goals of the client and the company.
- Including but not limited to production performance, pig flow, marketing, revenue, and cost management.
- Execute and implement Pipestone’s animal welfare, bio-security, and safety policies and procedures to ensure core values of Pipestone are maintained.
- Understand daily production numbers and the factors that are impactful
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Obtaining a degree in Animal Science or related field.
Experience:
Prior experience in livestock caretaking preferred. Other applicable experience considered.
Work Environment:
Agricultural swine environment in rural area
Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
Be willing to be in the outdoor elements.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently bend, reach, squat and kneel.
Occasional bend while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move
Additional Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR report
Occasional travel is required
