What You Will Do:
You will prepare surgical tissue specimens for evaluation by producing stained glass slides of human tissue for microscopic examination. A Pathologist then uses these stained slides to establish and confirm a patient diagnosis.
You will perform a variety of standardized clinical histotechnology laboratory tests and procedures under the supervision of the Histology Supervisor and Pathologist, some of which include:
- Frozen Sectioning- preparing frozen tissue for rapid diagnosis during surgical procedures
- Fine Needle Aspiration Assistance- preparing aspirated samples for rapid diagnosis during surgical procedures
- Processing- proper tissue fixation, removal of water, and infiltration of paraffin wax
- Embedding- orienting tissue in paraffin wax
- Microtomy- cutting thin tissue sections and mounting those sections on glass slides for staining
- Routine Staining- staining tissue sections with Hematoxylin & Eosin
- Manual and Automated Histochemical Staining- staining for elements of tissue sections including micro-organisms and various cellular components
You will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory work areas, equipment, and staining solutions.
Education and Certification:
- A minimum of an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry or acceptance into an accredited histology certificate program is required
- Certification as a Histology Technician (HT) from the American Society Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification is required or must be received within 16 months of employment
Work Schedule
- Evenings: Monday - Friday; 8 hour shifts; 2:00pm - 10:30pm
- Full Time; 80 hours per 2 weeks
- No weekends, holidays or call time
- Eligible for evening shift differential pay beginning at 7pm

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
