Job Description

Call to Freedom is committed to identifying and responding to the needs of individuals at-risk of human trafficking and sexual exploitation and those working to transition out of human trafficking. The Housing Navigator’s purpose is to support the efforts of Call to Freedom by coordinating statewide housing resources and partners to aid clients. The Housing Navigator, with the help of community multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), will identify local housing resources across the state of South Dakota.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, a related field, or equivalent of 4 years of work experience is required.

  • Experience with victims of violence, trafficking, trauma, and/or substance abuse is helpful.

  • Training in trauma-informed care is beneficial.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Flexible, self-directed, and responsive.

  • This position is hourly 40 hours/week. Must be able to adapt to a flexible schedule including an evening a week and a few weekend hours per month as needed.


CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:

The ability to obtain and retain a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide training and technical assistance to housing service providers, other supportive service providers and community members, as requested.

  • Assist case managers and community partners with screening, referral, intervention strategies, best practices, etc.

  • Work with appropriate staff to develop training and educational materials to be given to housing providers, human trafficking survivors, and to build community awareness.

  • Coordinate with community MDTs in identifying and accessing housing resources for human trafficking survivors including rural communities.

  • Manage internal housing funds and disbursement.

  • Track grant objectives and assist in grant reporting.

  • Serve as the point of contact for various CTF community housing and scattered site partnerships.

  • Work with MOU partners and other potential community partners to develop a coordinated entry process for survivors entering transitional housing recognizing the uniqueness of each community and how they work together to support survivors.

  • Coordinate community referrals and clients’ needs with Director of Marissa’s House & Outreach Services and case managers.

  • Able to travel within the state as needed.

  • Attend and participate in various community and state partnership education and collaboration meetings.

  • Work with clients within the care team approach to complete housing intake documents and navigate housing process.

  • Research and maintain an up-to-date list of available housing options (shelters, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, etc.).

  • Advocate for clients and help them access housing resources, ensuring they meet eligibility criteria for various programs.

  • Assist clients with filling out housing applications, providing transportation, and supporting the client during the housing search process.

  • Advocate for survivors with landlords or housing authorities to overcome potential barriers to housing.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, documenting interactions, progress, and housing-related issues in compliance with agency policies and confidentiality standards.

  • Stay informed about local housing laws, regulations, and best practices for housing survivors of human trafficking.

  • Other duties as assigned.
