Summary:
This position performs skilled building maintenance tasks in the HVAC department. The incumbent acts as a specialist in the areas of heating, ventilation, refrigeration operation troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance. This employee will perform necessary repairs, supervise, and participate in planning altering and installing new systems in a complex of buildings. HVAC refrigeration certificate would be beneficial. Working hours for this position are primarily Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes an on-call rotation for needs outside of regular working hours but may vary according to needs of the facility.
The HSC physical plant is committed to providing the highest standard of customer service for its customer, fellow staff members, clients, and visitors.
Licenses and Certifications: There are no licenses or certifications required for this position, but HVAC refrigeration certificate is preferable.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the HVAC industry and have the ability to do the following: troubleshoot issues, makes repairs as necessary, be able to order materials and parts, and provide preventative maintenance to HVAC systems to include boilers (hydronic and steam), chillers, air handlers, exhaust fans, etc.
Knowledge of:
- local state and federal building codes;
- appropriate installation and repair techniques;
- electrical and mechanical principles and design;
- the functions of various HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems;
- operation of campus building automation system.
Skill to:
- communicate with other trades, hospital staff, vendors, and contractors;
- make repairs and troubleshoot systems while maintaining fiscal responsibility;
- operate computer programs necessary for maintenance operations.
Ability to:
- read and follow blueprints;
- interpret technical specs and regulations;
- operate necessary tools of the trade;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- deal tactfully and work effectively with others.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
