Minimum Salary: $18.60 per hour

Position Description :
Successful candidate(s) will work both independently and as part of a team. Independent work will consist of conducting angler use surveys and Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) sampling and education efforts within the northeast fish management area. This position will also assist with fish population surveys and ongoing research projects; candidate(s) have the option and are encouraged to conduct independent research. Primary job duties involve field work (netting, electrofishing, AIS watercraft inspection/decontamination, and angler interviews), tablet/computer use (data entry) and laboratory work (removing fish aging structures, estimating fish ages...). Maintenance associated with vehicles, equipment, buildings, and grounds will be completed to help ensure smooth operation of work activities. If interested in independent research, successful candidates will complete a proposal (with assistance of a full-time staff member) prior to summer and publication of findings is encouraged.
Qualifications :
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
Interns will work independently and must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Successful applicants must be willing to work nights, weekends, and have a valid driver's license. Pursuit of a career in fisheries and wildlife or biological sciences is desirable.
