Position Description:
The Human Services internship position at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) is intended to provide students studying in the field of human services an opportunity to work in a delivery system that provides comprehensive specialized services designed to enhance quality of life and community inclusion for people with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Developmental Disabilities. This position will be provided a structured opportunity for formal supervised experiences that span across all areas of these specialized services. These may include but are not limited to assisting case management in the development and monitoring of an Individual Support Plan, assessing, and assisting in life skills development, assisting with transitional opportunities into a community setting, assisting and developing recreational opportunities, art instruction, developing interest inventories to aid in vocational training, and providing observations and insight to the behavioral health team.
Eligible students should have completed core human services related coursework including but not limited to: Introduction to Sociology, General Psychology and Lifespan Development.
Housing for students may be provided if needed.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
