Position Description:
This position is intended to give a broad range of experiences in a working public health laboratory. The Medical Microbiology Section provides bacteriology, molecular, mycology, mycobacteriology, serology, virology, and special pathogens testing. The incumbent will work closely with a team of scientists to provide clinical and public health microbiology testing for clients throughout the state of South Dakota. Duties will include aiding in specimen receiving, media preparation, diagnostic testing in a high-complexity environment and data analysis.
Qualifications:
Coursework in microbiology, medical laboratory science, or a related field of study is preferred. The applicant must be willing to work as part of a team.
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
