At the SD Department of Labor and Regulation - Sioux Falls Job Service, our Core Values are Customer Service, Teamwork, Respect, Communication and Integrity. As a Job Service Case Manager/Employment Specialist you will play a vital role in administering the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) under the U.S. Department of Labor. This program is designed to enhance participant's ability to increase skill levels to obtain meaningful employment. This is an onsite role in the Sioux Falls Job Service Office.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working with a diverse range of adult participants, including individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, English language learners, ex-offenders, or individuals with disabilities.
  • Complete assessments and provide individualized counseling to help customers identify strengths and job skills, as well as factors that limit potential employment opportunities.
  • Empower individuals by helping them identify community resources, overcome challenges, and develop job skills to achieve sustainable and meaningful employment.
  • Provide customers the assistance needed as they explore employment or training opportunities offered by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Document all case management activities in detail and record appropriate services provided.
  • Case manage customers both in-person and virtually using Microsoft Teams and maintain regular communication while they desire our assistance.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • a bachelor's degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education or experience in fields such as Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, or similar;
  • proficiency in computer applications and virtual communication platforms;
  • strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • ability to establish rapport with individuals coming from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge of:
  • interviewing, case management, and counseling techniques;
  • community resources and various support services available in the local community;
  • customer service skills and motivational techniques.

Ability to:
  • maintain accurate records and assure case notes are entered in a timely manner;
  • maintain effective communication with participants, co-workers, partner agencies;
  • gather information based on customer interests and abilities, work history, education, etc. to identify employment or training goals;
  • work with customers who may have barriers to employment.
