Job Description

Nielson Construction is looking for a driven and organized individual to be our new Lead Mechanic! The Lead Mechanic will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nielson Companies shop, storage yard, and additional warehouse spaces. This position is responsible for inventory, inspections, and maintenance in the Nielson Shop and grounds. The Lead Mechanic will ensure that all processes and procedures are up to date and comply with all relevant safety standards.

No overnight travel! Starting wage is $80,000 and higher for experience!

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees, schedules, and completes fleet and equipment maintenance. This is required in the shop area or on-site in the field.
  • Maintains the facilities and organizes the shop, storage yard, and additional warehouse spaces.
  • Inspects vehicles, trailers, equipment, and tools. Completes all required DOT inspections on applicable vehicles, trailers, or equipment.
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date records on inventory for chemicals, tools, equipment, vehicles, trailers, and other items on the shop grounds.
  • Complete parts runs or delivers tools, materials, and equipment to job sites.
  • Ensures all activities at the shop are conducted in accordance with OSHA and Safety regulations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of diesel, automotive, trucks, and equipment. Preference is given to direct construction equipment maintenance.
  • Experience as a mechanic required. Shop and/or maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • A degree in related coursework is preferred but not required.
  • A valid driver's license is required. Class A CDL is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and procedures (ex. OSHA 10).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Strong verbal communication skills are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
