Job Description

The Vermillion Light & Power Department is seeking a full-time Lineman/Electrician. This position installs and maintains a variety of electrical systems using specialized tools and vehicles; provides on-the-job training to apprentices and helpers. Diagnoses and corrects defects in power generation and distribution systems. The work requires expert knowledge of electrical theory and principles, familiarity with the tools and equipment used in the electrical trades, ability to interpret and apply blueprints and maps, specifications and codes, installation and maintenance of electric power lines and power delivery equipment, and knowledge of safety rules and procedures. Work is carried out mostly independently, with supervisors providing instruction and clarification for unusual or difficult problems. Applicant must possess a minimum of a 2-year Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, a field directly related to this position, or a Powerline Maintenance and Construction Degree, complete a lineman apprenticeship program, and must be able to pass a physical job function test. This position is included in the Department’s on-call rotation.
