Job Description

OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of employees in general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment at all Pipestone facilities in your region. Responsible for the training, development and performance evaluation of maintenance technicians.  Safety training of maintenance technicians and insuring that applicable safety procedures are followed at all times. Responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems. Perform the work of maintenance employees and other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties as assigned)

  • Supervise and assign the work of maintenance employees.
  • Train and develop the Repairs & Maintenance team.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and safety. Ensuring a safe work environment for all employees is a priority.
  • Determine material, equipment, and supplies needed to accomplish maintenance functions of your region and utilize the supply coordinator to order from vendors as needed.
  • Coordinate or install, inspect, repair and maintain the electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems at all your locations.
  • Coordinate or assist and inspect major contract work on electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related systems in all your locations.
  • Coordinate schedules with managers as well as complete employee reviews and discipline action as needed.
  • Exercise cost consciousness with repair and maintenance items and direct cost-effective purchases with your team.
  • Other projects and special assignments as needed to achieve the overall maintenance and construction objectives of Pipestone.

Supervisory Duties:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities within the Repairs & Maintenance department in accordance with all policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education:  
B.S. degree with an agricultural or construction management focus preferred or adequate experience in the maintenance field in lieu of degree
Experience:
3-5 years in Maintenance field, 2 years of supervisory experience
Agricultural experience preferred 
Work Environment:
Agricultural swine environment in rural area
Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
Physical Requirements: 
Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day
Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling
Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull
Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with the assistance of another person as needed
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to attend and participate in meetings of various lengths
Additional Requirements:
Ability to train, develop and lead a team of maintenance employees
Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees/vendors/contractors
Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions
Computer experience in Outlook, Word and Microsoft Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Organizational skills and effective time management to meet deadlines
Some overnight travel required
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR report
