Summary of Position
The Major Gifts Specialist plays a pivotal role in cultivating substantial major gift contributions from the top tier of our
donor file, primarily by prioritizing donor engagement and ensuring a high level of donor satisfaction. Engagement
strategies are implemented through various communication channels, consistently maintaining a professional and
respectful demeanor. This role involves securing ongoing support from our existing contributors while actively
expanding and diversifying our donor base. This is a non-exempt position.

Core Responsibilities
? Serves as the face and voice of St. Joseph’s Indian School.
? Clearly articulates the mission, programs and events of St. Joseph’s with donors.
Responsibilities
1. Serves a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects through the establishment of strategic goals, dedicated
donor stewardship and cultivation efforts, and personalized solicitations initiatives. Additionally, holds
responsibility for crafting and overseeing donor communication strategies.
2. Recognize and maximize opportunity to deepen conversations with donors by asking follow-up questions and
engaging in conversation toward greater understanding of caller’s inspirations, motivations, anxieties, and
frustrations. Input donor engagement information into CRM in an accurate and timely fashion.
3. Execute scheduled calls of appreciation for donors contributing $500 or more while doing donor research to find
current phone numbers if needed. Ensure meticulous attention to details were followed regarding donor
information, potential donor inquiries and any donation restrictions associated with the contribution. Make any
changes that are needed.
4. Process all donations received from Native Hope and ensure timely acknowledgment by printing and distributing
thank-you letters to donors.
5. Manage and document day to day requests for pictures of donated items with students. Collaborate with Home
& Office and Tipi Press to and fulfill the special request.
6. Efficiently and reliably process contributions via credit card and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) in strict
adherence to Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
7. Effectively manage incoming and outgoing phone calls and emails with a high level of professionalism and
promptness. Oversee the daily generation and printing of processing letters. Support and contribute to special
events and initiatives as required.
8. Immediately communicates all significant leads related to major and planned gifts to the Major Gifts Manager.
9. Performs other responsibilities as required by the Major Gifts Manager.
Qualifications
? High school education required, BA preferred.
? Must be highly organized, detail-oriented with impeccable attention to detail; able to multitask.
? Ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relations with donors while being an active listener.
? Genuine desire to talk to people and answer questions/solve problems; enjoys communicating by phone or email.
? Must possess strong verbal skills and command of English language with a particular emphasis on proper
grammar.
? Maintain poise and patience when dealing with high profile donors always maintaining diplomacy and grace
under pressure.
? Should be a self-motivated team player of excellent character and personal integrity.
? Needs the ability to learn applicable software including Donor Direct CRM and absorb organizational knowledge.
? Needs to be able to demonstrate a general understanding of Native American culture.
? Must possess the highest degree of discretion and confidentiality.
? Valid Driver’s License is required.
Physical Demands
? Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
Expectations of Hours Worked
? 40 hours per week
? Occasional weekend and evening work for scheduled events and donor cultivation will be required.
