POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineer- Mechanical R&D will design, develop, and test sub-systems related to firetrucks. Mechanical engineering is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and eventual production. This position will support advanced engineering designs and be responsible for cradle to production implementation of Rosenbauer future products. The position will also be responsible for engineering processes and process improvements, that affect engineering throughput, data management and requirements tracking. The engineer will achieve these goals by working cross functionally with other sub-system engineers, purchasing, production, service, and our sales team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops, maintains, and ensures conformance to corporate, customer, and regulatory sub-system specifications and performance requirements of existing products.
  2. Understand and apply vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as FMVSS, SAE, NFPA, etc., to ensure our product designs are compliant. May maintain regulatory agency approvals.
  3. Maintains contact with suppliers in conjunction with purchasing to evaluate new products as well as support and ensure parts received meet quality standards.
  4. Develops and monitors simulation, lab and field validation and test programs to assure performance. Gathers and analyzes data to monitor product and component performance.
  5. Prioritizes and manages multiple assignments and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
  6. Prepares detailed documentation on the engineering design process and milestone reports for engineering projects. Prepares and presents project status reports.
  7. Initiates and implements integrated hardware and software solutions to meet respective sub-system performance, to improve value by increasing quality and performance or by reducing costs.
  8. Participates on cross-functional teams to implement product and process improvements.
  9. Create and manage detail drawings and Bill of Materials.
  10. Analyze and problem-solve design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
  11. Develop and implement corrective action in accordance with QMS procedures.
  12. Review Quality Audit records and analyze customer returns to assess product conformance to specifications.
  13. Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales & Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  14. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

K

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • 0-3 years of related mechanical engineering experience required.
  • Experience in heavy truck and/or automotive systems preferred.
  • Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems preferred.
  • SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for efficient assembly and serviceability preferred.
  • Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment preferred.

  • Able to find, read, and interpret relevant scientific and technical documentation and standards.
  • Able to actively participate in engineering discussions by listening, asking relevant questions, and suggesting solutions to problems.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions and communicate new information that could affect project trajectories.

Math:

  • Basic math functions and accounting abilities with a high aptitude for accuracy.

Computer:

  • Able to perform intermediate PC functions including the use of spreadsheet tables and formulas.
  • Able to work within SolidWorks or CAD.

  • Able to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in non-standard situations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to understand and apply an engineering development process.
  • Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
