Job Summary: This position is responsible for active treatment supports and services, crisis intervention services, skills training and behavior management to clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC)
Key Responsibilities:
- Selecting appropriate learning curriculum based on abilities, limitations, goals and needs of each client.
- Effectively assess and intervene during behavior and crisis incidents by following individualized behavior treatment strategies.
- Serve as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, which designs individualized support plans to ensure the most effective methods of behavior modification or treatment.
- Plan and facilitate groups sessions as specified in the Individual Support Plan (ISP)
- Develop individualized behavioral, teaching and service plans with no limitations and submits to Peer Review Committee for approval.
- Completes assessments and authors evaluations utilizing person-centered practices.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Bachelor's in Psychology, Sociology or related field
- The ideal candidate will work closely with clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing support and implementing treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed professional.
Knowledge of:
- counseling methods;
- principles of basic human behavior;
- problems experienced by and methods of supervising people with developmental disabilities;
- CPR and first aid;
- Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques;
- medication administration;
- patient's rights;
- serious emotional disturbances.
- Crisis prevention and intervention utilizing non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Knowledge of Individual Support Plans
- Person Centered Thinking
Skill to:
- Facilitate group sessions as specified in the Individual Support Plan
- Execute approved behavior treatment strategies to ensure effective outcomes.
- Document progress and learning opportunities.
Ability to:
- Develop individualized plans for clients and submits to Peer Review Committee for approval.
- Communicate effectively to relay information regarding client behavior and needs.
- Serve as member of clients Interdisciplinary team to develop individualized support plans.

- communicate effectively to relay information regarding adolescents and adult behaviors and needs;
- understand adolescents and adult behavior and help them formulate more acceptable responses to situations or problems they encounter;
- maintain records and prepare reports;
- coordinate and conduct planned treatment programs;
- interpret and follow established policies, procedures, operations memoranda, and guidelines.
