This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the Game Fish & Parks. For more information on the Game Fish & Parks, please visit https://gfp.sd.gov/ .
This position requires experience in leading outdoor educational programs, specifically hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. The position requires working with individuals of all ages and experience levels learning outdoor skills. Volunteers and interns are available to support this position, so working alongside those individuals and providing direction is necessary. The position will be responsible for all logistics of two, big GFP educational events ran out of the Outdoor Campus, as well as creating and leading any other events through the education department of the Outdoor Campus while working with numerous non-GFP organizations to help facility these events. In addition to planning and leading events, this position will also lead our Outreach opportunities. Creating relationships with surrounding areas and being able to lead their outdoor education needs will be required. Some travel to the outreach locations will be required.
The incumbent must be able to work outdoors in weather typical for South Dakota.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A B.S. or B.A. in education, communication, counseling, biology, business, consumer affairs, natural resource/conservation management, environmental science, or similar degree is preferred.
Experience in planning and leading events with an outdoor education/recreation focus. Experience and ability to teaching hunting, fishing, and shooting sports.
Knowledge of:
- R3 as it relates to hunting, angling, and shooting sports;
- outdoor educational activities such as hunting, fishing, shooting sports, hiking, camping, etc.
Skill to:
- plan and lead large events based on hunting, fishing, and outdoor education activities;
- lead hunting, fishing, shooting sports, and outdoor activity classes;
- remain organized and have strong communication skills.
Ability to:
- stay organized and keep calm under pressure;
- be outgoing, efficient, and confident in correspondence with diverse audiences;
- participate as a team-player within the campus staff.
