Job Description

The Equalization Office Assistant performs a variety of secretarial and clerical work in assisting the public and our staff members. Responsibilities include answering phone calls and emails; greeting and assisting clients; aiding in the preparation of information for appraisers, maintaining and organizing appraiser schedules, and data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED plus one year of general secretarial experience. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Computer literacy, property record literacy, and great customer service. Experience in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to efficiently operate necessary office equipment with accuracy and reasonable speed. Ability to operate a personal computer with reasonable speed and accuracy. Ability to find and read property records. Ability to work on multiple tasks within the same time frame, paying close attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Assist taxpayers, realtors, lenders, tax services, surveyors, title companies, attorneys, insurance companies, private appraisers, and others in obtaining information for property assessments and property details.

  • Answer phone calls from property owners and set up inspection appointments for appraisers.

  • Maintain online file system. Help the public navigate the public information portal.

  • Review and scan documents such as plats, annexations, building permits, tax exemption applications, etc.

  • Aid with any additional projects or duties as deemed by the Director of Equalization
