Feeding South Dakota is the state's largest hunger-relief organization, with a mission to end hunger in South Dakota. Through our programs and agency partners we are providing food in all 66 counties of our state and fighting hunger in rural communities, metro areas and Native American Reservations.

Job Summary

The Operations Coordinator supports the organization’s program services, including duties associated with food bank programs and general warehouse duties. This position is responsible for assisting with supervision/training of distribution center staff.

Job Responsibilities

Volunteerism:

  • Works with Feeding South Dakota staff to identify volunteer projects and activities.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and/or computer input for volunteers.
  • Reviews volunteer database for scheduling and project planning.

Inventory Control:

  • Perform accurate inventory locators, trash management, and count support. Be the point of contact for inventory needs and verify incoming materials.
  • Assists with accurate and efficient processing of orders, including pick sheets, agency invoices, and mobile worksheets in coordination with Inventory Manager.
  • Assists with inventory preparations for volunteer projects, mobile distributions, and agency deliveries.
  • Maintain communication and work with other departments on inventory discrepancies and needs in coordination with the Inventory Manager.
  • Works with staff to ensure proper supply inventory management, advising on proper ordering and distribution.
  • Utilize Ceres, the inventory database, to assist in printing and invoicing orders and receipt of product.

Operations:

  • Oversees ongoing AIB (food safety) duties to obtain a satisfactory audit.
  • Completes all required training and cross training as applicable.
  • Assists with mobile food pantry distributions on a rotating schedule.
  • Assists with various distribution center duties to include but not limited to general cleaning and organizing of distribution center, lawn care, trash and recycling, vehicle preventative maintenance including washing and cleaning.
  • Maintains proper licensing and training as applicable.
  • Builds organizational structure with reporting to staff and other volunteer leaders.
  • Regular attendance and attention to punctuality are required for a person to be successful in this role.
  • Ensures distribution center organization, cleanliness and that facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment are maintained and repaired as necessary
  • Works with Operations Director on appropriate scheduling of agency supply routes and mobile distributions. Assisting with scheduling necessary staff to these operations.
  • Develops staff, promotes a positive culture and creates a strong team environment.
  • Motivates and engages employees and volunteers to advance the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Evenings and weekends may be required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy Work: Heavy work involves lifting approximately 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, it is also determined that they can also do sedentary, light, and medium work

Qualifications

  • Two years of relevant experience in customer service, inventory and data management is preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office computer programs.
  • Some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean and safe driving record.
  • Class B CDL is strongly desired; or must be willing and eligible to acquire CDL within 60 days of hire
