Job Description

Summary/Objective:  The Operations Support Specialist is part of the manufacturing support team and is responsible for tactical execution in manufacturing to maximize utilization while meeting goals for safety, quality, delivery, and profitability. This person must possess advanced technical skills and proactively achieve and seek out those assigned technical obligations as they occur. This individual must have exceptional organizational, communication, leadership, team building, and multitasking skills and perform well under pressure. This role involves executing production schedules, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and leading a team of production workers. The Operations Support Specialist will work closely with the Manufacturing Manager to implement process improvements and ensure efficient production workflows.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and execute consistent training objectives for a team of production workers.
  • Execute daily production activities to meet production targets and deadlines
  • Monitor production schedules and flex/cross train staff as needed to ensure timely completion of orders
  • Coordinate daily production activities and assign tasks to team members
  • Monitor workflow and make adjustments to improve throughput, yield, and cost reductions using methods such as optimal lot sizing, setup reductions, new technology, and tooling control
  • Responsible for setting direction, communicating the plan and providing feedback
  • Establishes process and procedure improvements and ensures proper documentation is in place
  • Manages cost through labor enhancements, splitting times, product mix, backfilling employee shortages, and being a technical resource for scrap reduction
  • Seamless communication on KPI metric boards, written and verbal, on subjects not limited to, goal communication for a given time period, output expectations, performance, efficiency, and follow up
  • Assists in the coordination and launch of new/revised products and processes
  • Provide regular updates to the Manufacturing Manager and Production coordinator(s) on production status and issues
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules, work with area supervisor to monitor and schedule labor needs to meet capacity requirements and minimize unnecessary overtime
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and implementing cost-effective and profitable ways to increase manufacturing effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports as required
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to submit and communicate clear accurate data and information
  • Ensure equipment and machinery are properly maintained and operational.
  • Support other Duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Individual must be able to work with little to no supervision after initial training period, showing a high degree of initiative and self-motivation. Must demonstrate consistently being a good example of providing leadership and excellent work ethic
  • Experience with manufacturing systems, quality/continuous improvement initiatives, and manufacturing safety practices is preferred
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and problem-solving/analysis abilities
  • The ability to teach and train others in a coach or mentor role as needed
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of customer and company information
  • Must possess strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
