POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs manual labor, equipment maintenance, and equipment operation and customer service/scale duties to assist with the disposal of residential and commercial solid waste materials for the City.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Pushes and packs incoming loads. Maintains proper slope and grade of landfill.
- Operates loader to haul and move materials and yard refuse.
- Performs load inspections for hazardous and prohibited materials.
- Hauls and lays clay to maintain landfill site and roadways.
- Turns compost. Monitors and records temperature readings. Removes compost upon completion.
- Pumps and records water pumping.
- Separates refrigerant-based appliances.
- Maintains landfill grounds including maintaining roads; mowing grass; moving snow; picking up litter and eliminating weeds.
- Operates scale system and directs incoming and outgoing traffic.
- Provides first line customer service to internal and external customers; greets, receives and screens visitors and customers.
- Receives and processes payments, applying payment to proper account and providing receipt of transaction when necessary. Balances daily cash intake drawer; resolves discrepancies.
- Responds to customer complaints and/or concerns. Advises supervisor(s) of complaints and/or concerns not resolved.
- Sprays herbicides/pesticides to control weeds on City property.
- Safely operates assigned equipment. Ensures proper traffic control and safety procedures and devices are available and used for traffic control as needed during collection activities.
- Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment.
- Reports maintenance and/or repair needs which require mechanical assistance.
- Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and time sheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs, and other pertinent information.
- Cleans work area, sweeps floors, replaces tools, maintains and repairs equipment and collects windblown refuse at the landfill and along roads.
- Provides back-up support and assistance to the department as needed.
- Reports to work for after-hour needs, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
