Park Manager provides administrative assistance to the District 12 Park Supervisor. The Park Manager functions as team leader over Assistant Park Manager, Park Maintenance Technician, seasonal front-line workers, seasonal maintenance staff, campground attendants and park volunteers. Duties include coordinating campground reservations, Point of Sale (POS) system training and issues, auditing, etc. to carry out the business of the parks. The parks include; Spring Creek RA (12 Modern cabins, 4 small suites, 55 slip marina, C-store and possibly a concessionaire operated restaurant); Cow Creek RA (38 electrical campsites, 8 non-electric sites, and 4 camper cabins); Okobojo Point RA (18 non-electric sites); Peoria Flats LUA. Taking care of customer needs including selling park entrance licenses and merchandise. Conflict resolution with park visitors, volunteers, and/or seasonal staff. Maintaining park facilities, equipment, and grounds in cooperation with the other permanent staff. Performs structural repairs and enhancements, preventative maintenance on equipment, landscaping, pruning and trimming trees in cooperation with other permanent staff. Performs safety inspections of buildings, marina and grounds. Also helps with various projects in any of the District 12 managed areas.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Possess or ability to obtain pesticide applicator certification.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A Park Management, Resources Management or Business Management degree or a very good working knowledge of park environments and their operations is preferred. The ability to learn the Division of Park's the POS system and the ability to teach it to seasonal staff. Computer experience with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Windows 10. Public relations experience dealing with customers, conflict resolution, able to process solutions quickly and coordinate/communicate with volunteers, and other staff. Working knowledge of, or ability to learn Department of Game, Fish, and Parks procedures, policies, rules, and regulations, then teach them to volunteers and staff.

Knowledge of:
  • business practices of management as related to SD Parks and Resources oversight and care;
  • human resources management practices sufficient to interview, train, and evaluate temporary employees;
  • public relations experience to communicate effectively with visitors, volunteers, and other staff;
  • communication skills to solve conflicts with visitors, volunteers, and/or seasonal staff;
  • purchasing processes such as ordering from contracts and contacting local vendors for bids;
  • auditing procedures for park entrance license and merchandise sales;
  • basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs;
  • safe operating guidelines for equipment.

Skill to:
  • communicate with all types of people under all types of conditions;
  • business skills, including bookkeeping, office management, purchasing and inventory procedures, voucher coding, and other fiscal operating procedures;
  • maintain facilities; such as plumbing, electrical repair, carpentry, marina slips and painting;
  • diagnostic and repair for a variety of vehicles, boats and equipment;
  • grounds keeping skills; mowing, trimming, and planting;
  • tree trimming, removal, and planting procedures.

Ability to:
  • provide on the job training to assigned employees and volunteers;
  • delegate work to others based on their capabilities;
  • understand and follow instructions, compose required reports;
  • communicate sufficiently to resolve conflicts with staff, volunteers, and the public;
  • work outdoors in all kinds of weather;
  • lift 50 lbs.;
  • develop and make presentations as they relate to natural resources and park management.
