Job Description

Diesel Machinery, Inc. (DMI) in Rapid City is looking for a Parts Manager. DMI is a full-service heavy equipment distributor representing industry leading brands such as Komatsu, JCB, Takeuchi, Bomag, Dynapac and Grove. We proudly serve markets in South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, Northwest Iowa, and counties in Northern Nebraska and Wyoming.

Qualifications

1. Five years' experience in parts management or similar experience within the heavy equipment industry.

2. Bachelor`s degree or equivalent.

3. Demonstrated understanding of the financial aspects of parts management.

4. Demonstrated understanding of inventory control theory.

5. Computer literacy to include business operating systems, Excel, Word, Internet, Outlook and other programs.

6. Effective communications skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the development of reasonable annual objectives for the parts department to include customer service, proper and acceptable inventory levels, acceptable turnover rates, and sales goals and profits.

2. Sees that authorized plans and programs are carried out by the parts department as to inventory levels, warranty, customer satisfaction, service and convenience.

3. Ensures availability of adequate manpower at all times in order to maintain proper records, storage facilities, packaging, deliveries and parts sales. Maintains a display area.

4. Recruits and hires department personnel. Organizes and conducts training programs for parts personnel either as a department function or in conjunction with manufacturer’s representatives. Maintains housekeeping discipline.

5. Evaluates the performance of parts department personnel and makes recommendations with regard to salary levels and compensation plans.

6. Maintains proper records, submits required reports, checks customer credit status and conducts other administrative details as required by management.

7. Makes recommendations with regard to the stocking and sale of re-manufactured, used or exchange parts. Keeps the sales department and customer informed regarding such programs; analyzes monthly emergency purchases.

8. Prepares and recommends plans for expansion. Makes necessary purchases of outside supplies and maintenance equipment.

9. Sees that parts literature, instruction sheets, price sheets, reference materials, promotional materials, etc. is properly maintained and kept up-to-date and available on all items supplied to the trade.

10. Takes an active part in company sales and service meetings; acts as a catalyst in the promotion and sale of parts through every possible means. Maintains contacts with customers and constantly evaluates the degree of parts service offered.

11. Studies operating costs, i.e., delivery charges and rates, paperwork procedures, telephone bills, mechanical handling methods, taxes and other hidden expenses in order to improve the profits of the department.

12. Continually studies parts management practices and automation, attends conferences and seminars conducted by manufacturers and associations, and makes every effort to keep posted on the latest and most efficient methods of running a profitable parts department, especially computerization.

13. Oversees the active implementation of the “10 Commandments” of the parts department.

14. Monitors accounts receivable and assists in the collection of any past due accounts dealing with the parts department.

15. Works with sales department to forecast parts demand relative to new or different models of equipment.

16. Perform other duties assigned by management to enhance DMI’s profitability.

Distributor Relationships:

1. Maintains good working relationships and cooperates with other department personnel.

2. Accountable to the Director of Product Support for proper interpretation and fulfillment of responsibilities.

Method of Measurement:

1. The successful attainment of sales profits and expense objectives for the parts department (as set forth in the parts and profit plan).

2. Performance of the responsibilities as set forth in this job description and the company’s return on investment.

3. The satisfaction expressed by customers, other functional managers and the President.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual acuity: This is a minimum standard for use with those who operate cars, trucks, forklifts, cranes, and other pieces of construction equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
