Summary:
Come work with our pharmacy team at the South Dakota Human Services Center! This position is held with the Department of Social Services and provides pharmaceutical care for the patients at the Human Services Center (HSC). HSC is a licensed specialty hospital and South Dakota's only publicly funded psychiatric hospital. HSC provides adult and youth inpatient psychiatric services, adult inpatient substance use disorder services, and skilled nursing home care. This position provides assistance to pharmacists in processing medications for distribution to patients, as well as, filling and restocking the pharmacy's automated dispensing machines, across the hospital. Position assists in maintaining daily operations of a pharmacy, including but not limited to retrieving medications for the pharmacist, maintaining inventory and unit dose packaging. This position requires the applicant to work with hazardous medications; safety precautions and protective gear will be in place per policy. All work is checked by a registered pharmacist.
Work schedules vary with pharmacy operations to ensure coverage for a variety of daytime shifts. This part-time position will be 32 hours per week, Monday - Saturday.
Licenses and Certifications:Per ARSD 20:51:29, successful applicant must be certified nationally; or pass the certification exam within two years of hire. Must hold technician registration with the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy within 30 days.
Other information:
Within two years of hire Pharmacy Technicians must be nationally certified and pass a board-approved pharmacy technician certification examination that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Knowledge of:
- the principles, practices and standards of pharmacy operations;
- pharmaceutical terminology and abbreviations;
- medication names (trade and generic names);
Ability to:
- analyze information;
- follow oral and written instructions and relay information clearly and concisely;
- follow instructions and ask questions in order to learn the proper policies and procedures for standard pharmacy practices;
- maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and related supplies;
- operate office and pharmacy equipment;
- work with a variety of computer applications;
- input data using a computer;
- perform job duties with organization and attention to detail to ensure accuracy;
- work in a team.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
