· As the Plant Engineer, you are expected to maintain Grand Prairie’s Core Values in all communications with employees, visitors, and outside service providers.
Role
The purpose of the role of Plant Engineer is to oversee the electrical & mechanical systems of the two manufacturing plants, including, but not limited to design, implementation, and troubleshooting. This position is vital to continue to enhance and grow production capabilities to align with the company’s growth.
Responsibilities
· Identify process or cost improvement opportunities targeted towards improving business performance, through reducing waste, improving productivity, reducing downtime, and reducing costs.
· Assess current manufacturing equipment, technique, and technology processes to increase efficiency, throughput, and to reduce production problems.
· Be the Subject Matter Expert in improvement methods and problem solving.
· Train, mentor, and lead employees on new and improved methods and processes.
· Oversee various projects to ensure safety and environmental compliance.
· Lead and support material flow and replenishment system improvements – Kanban/PFEP/EPEI.
· Champion 5s and workplace organization.
· Identify and prioritize high impact opportunities targeted towards improving business performance on safety, quality, delivery, and cost by establishing links between process improvement initiatives and business strategies.
· Act as a proactive strategic resource to partner with site management to identify, plan and implement process improvement solutions, guiding site management in the understanding and use of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods.
· Train, mentor, develop, and lead employees in the application and use of various Lean and Six Sigma tools.
· Collaborate with all departments on end-to-end process improvement projects.
· Provide expert support while facilitating and tracking team progress of tool usage, change management, root cause identification, and process improvement methodology; ensuring appropriate controls are in place to monitor and maintain results and foster continuous improvement.
· Establish and use best practices to identify opportunities for improving employee safety, food safety and product quality.
· Collaborate with GPF’s Leadership Team to identify areas of waste elimination and productivity improvement.
· Collaborate with necessary finance personnel to define cost justification and payback (ROI) analysis.
· Conduct engineering time and motion studies to validate and develop process and crewing standards.
· Design and test process upgrades and new systems and equipment.
· Define and document new standard operating procedures and support the training of all necessary personnel.
Education & Training Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
Work Experience Requirements
· 7+ years of experience in food manufacturing engineering or CI field
· USDA experience preferred
· Project Management background required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Lifting requirements are 25lb regularly and up to 50lb occasionally
· Exposure to variation in temperature
· Working with uncooked, cooked, frozen products
·Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
·Traveling across all GPF facilities in Sioux Falls
