Role
The purpose of the role of the Plant Manager is to oversee management of all areas of manufacturing and to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.
Responsibilities
· Oversee the implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System (including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan), take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System, and communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance.
· Direct and manage plant operations for production, engineering, food safety, and production control.
· Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
· Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
· Work closely with the HR Manager for staffing and hiring needs.
· Train and elevate staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consult with the Human Resources Department as appropriate.
· Direct and monitor Supervisors, Production Leads and Operators to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing, budgetary and safety procedures.
· Act as liaison between department management/subordinate levels and the executive/department manager levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
· Implement cost effective systems of control over operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
· Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
· Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
· Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
· Follow the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Food standards (SQF) and safety rules including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Education & Training Requirements
· BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in a related field
Work Experience Requirements
· 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing leadership
· USDA experienced preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Ability to stand, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull. Lifting requirements are 25lb regularly and up to 50lb occasionally
· Exposure to variation in temperature
· Working with uncooked, cooked, frozen products
