Job Description

The Pre-Press Platemaker create press plates according to job specifications and established procedure using platemaking, testing and computer equipment.  Performs quality inspection of plates to ensure they meet specifications and to identify any imperfections.

Job Requirements
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Prepare print plates and screens to provide clear and accurate product
• Read and comprehend job tickets
• Assemble screen or plates while checking for distortion, tap, colors or step.
• Reclaim used screens and maintains screens.
• Cleans processing equipment
• Checks proofs for correctness
• Maintains supply inventory
• Follow SOP processes.
• Use micrometer and densitometer for measuring plates, films, proofs and printed product.
• Calculate distortions and ability to convert from millimeters to inches.
• Use required software programs and computers
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Be safety conscious and have the ability to regularly work in a production environment with fast moving machinery and product under little supervision
• Have safety awareness and ability to recognize hazards including, but not limited to staying out of safety light areas while machinery is operating and maintaining a safe distance as required.
• Ability to understand and comply with all general safety policies and procedures in accordance with Company, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to proof-read, spot errors and inconsistencies and take appropriate action
• Good mechanical aptitude and skills
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals quickly and correctly.
• Skill in practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
• Skill in performing measurement operations with units in imperial and metric systems.
• Ability to measure with exceptional accuracy using various measurement tools.
• Able to read, interpret and follow documents such as work instructions, safety rules, Standard Operating Procedures, and maintenance instructions/manuals to properly perform work.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems.
• Willingness and ability to work with other team members and management.
• Strong work ethic and good attitude towards work.
• Honest, reliable team player.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• 6 months or more Experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)

Physical Requirements:
• Regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms above and below shoulder level
• Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Regularly communicate in some manner either by speech/hearing or through written communication.
• Regularly use of vision abilities including close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly work around moving machinery and heavy equipment.
• Frequently required to push/pull.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequently exposed to high-speed moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently exposed to UV, strobing or flashing light.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes, dust or airborne particles.
• Regularly exposed to moderate noise level in the work environment.
