Job Description
Correctional Medical Management is seeking a PMHNP - CNP to join our team. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner’s role will include the assessment and diagnosis of psychiatric disorders, management of mental health conditions and delivery of psychotherapy to incarcerated individuals. The position will work on-site and in collaboration with a team of mental health counselors, medical professionals, and corrections team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect care to meet the physiological, psychological and emotional needs of patients
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess patient mental health status, medication needs, and treatment goals
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes counselors and medical staff to develop individualized treatment plans
- Prescribe and manage medication for patients consistent with established formulary
- Provide clinical supervision and consultation for nursing staff and other mental health staff on issues pertaining to psychotropic medication management and other clinical issues
- Provide medication education to patients to ensure proper compliance and understanding
- Monitor patient progress, ongoing care and determine treatment adjustments as needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential records to formulate mental health diagnoses, develop and implement treatment plans
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing
Knowledge/Skills
- Information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat psychological diseases. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties, drug interactions, and preventive health care measures
- Psychiatric advances practice nursing and medical principles and practices
- Patient psychiatric treatment assessment, including mental status examinations, diagnostic testing and laboratory testing
- Ability to maintain professionalism in a complex environment and provide direct patient care to incarcerated individuals
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as critical thinking skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations
- Strong technical problem solving, and analytical skills
- Capacity to function independently and collaboratively
- High degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making ability
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Preferred knowledge and experience with Medication Assisted Treatment
Position Requirements
- Must be licensed to practice as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the State of South Dakota
- Certified by ANCC or ANA as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
- Current DEA Licensure
- Current CPR Certification
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
