Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) is recruiting for a casual nursing position to pick up occasional shifts to help cover for vacation requests, ill calls, etc. The position will be responsible to provide nursing care to youth and adults experiencing mental health and addiction crisis. The role will be primarily positioned at The Core Center, which provides 24/7 crisis care services for youth and adults, while also performing duties at the EBEL Recovery Center, which provides substance use treatment and detoxification services for adults.
The position will operate within the nursing scope of practice, coordinate care delivery to ensure patients have their needs met in accordance with professional standards of practice through physician orders, agency policies and procedures, project goals, as well as federal, state, and local guidelines.
Employment Status: Casual Days and Nights
Weekend Rotation: Occasional
Shift and Length: 12 hours 0630-1900 or 1830-0700
Base Starting Wage: $27.00 for LPN or $34.00 for RN
Essential Functions:
- The position will be responsible to provide nursing care to youth and adults experiencing mental health and addiction crisis. The role will be primarily positioned at The CORE Center, which provides 24/7 crisis care services for youth and adults, while also performing duties at the Ebel Recovery Center, which provides substance use treatment and detoxification services for adults.
- The position will operate within the nursing scope of practice, coordinate care delivery to ensure patients have their needs met in accordance with professional standards of practice through physician orders, agency policies and procedures, project goals, as well as federal, state, and local guidelines.
- Perform triage assessments for youth and adults, identifying potential risks and possible options for support/intervention, in collaboration with crisis care staff and the advanced practice provider.
- Assess and monitor current physical and psychological health condition, providing education regarding conditions, treatment, and medication management.
- Assess and monitor patient’s withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals, providing care and administering medications per protocol, with the goal of ensuring the patient detoxifies safely. Facilitate transfer to a higher level of care when indicated.
- Observe patients taking prescribed medications and document in the MAR. Provide supervision of patient self-administration of medications, reporting of errors, medications refused, incident reports and related documentation.
- Complete admission process of patients and document accordingly.
- Monitor and supervise technician staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Maintain therapeutic posture with patients experiencing emotional instability, exercising self-control in volatile situations such as verbal/physical threats and/or confrontation. Assist in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
- Provide restraints for patients with behavioral safety concerns as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality. Immediately report safety concerns related to patient care issues, maintenance concerns, property destruction, theft, or any other safety concern preventing or directly or indirectly impacting the effective provision of treatment services.
- Assist with training of new staff as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.
Required Licensure / Certification and Experience / Abilities
South Dakota RN or LPN license required. Previous experience with inpatient medical care, withdrawal management, and behavioral healthcare preferred. CPR certification required within 30 days of hire. Valid driver’s license.
