General Requirements :
These are seasonal positions with the duration of employment typically lasting from late-April or early-May to mid-August. The position involves independent field work with extensive travel. Overnight travel is required and transportation during work activities will be in a state provided vehicle. Overnight travel accommodations are in state paid for hotel rooms. There is a daily meal per diem of up to $40 ($6 for breakfast, $14 for lunch, $20 for dinner).
There are four positions with one located in each region as described:
- Western South Dakota (Rapid City or Spearfish)
- Northeastern South Dakota (Watertown or Aberdeen)
- Eastern South Dakota (Brookings or Vermillion)
- Central South Dakota (Pierre or Huron)
Job duties may include:
- measuring water levels in state owned observation wells;
- data recording on a tablet running Android-OS;
- assist in quality assurance/quality control for observation well network;
- downloading data from electronic recorders using an Android based tablet or Windows based PC.
Qualifications :
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- The applicant must possess a valid driver's license, be able to drive a car or light truck, and be willing to travel.
- The applicant must be capable of occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds and perform manual labor outdoors in a variety of weather conditions on uneven terrain (e.g. road ditches)
- Preference will be given to students having completed at least one year post-secondary education. Students studying environmental/natural resources, science, or engineering majors are encouraged to apply.
