Join Our Team as a Seasonal Paver Operator!

We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our paving crew for the upcoming season. The Paver Operator reports directly to the Paving Foreman and works closely with the Screed Operator.

The typical work season is mid-April - December.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the asphalt paver by making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed operation.

  • Operate equipment with production goals and targets in mind to maintain project budget and schedule.

  • Must partner with other crew members to pave asphalt per plan specifications and perform tasks of other positions as instructed by crew foreman to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.

  • Properly follow Company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman.

  • Must be flexible as start time, shift duration, and location of work will vary. Overtime hours are required, and must be willing to travel out of town.

  • Work with the Paving Foreman developing various paving plans and methods to best suit individual job requirements, The Paving Foreman has final authority regarding the final action plan used for the project.

  • Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.

  • Must follow the safe operation of the paver.

  • Must be able to set feed sensors.

  • Effectively communicate with truck drivers

  • Maintain adequate material in front of the screed for lay down.

  • Completes daily work-around, notes necessary maintenance, and notifies supervisor of same.

  • Understand, meet, and plan grade cross-slope requirements.

  • Placement of material in front of the screed.

  • Setting of flow.

  • Ability to operate equipment holding a straight line.

  • Keep equipment clean.

  • Proper paving speed to match truck delivery.

  • Adjust the screed crown and strike off.

  • Set up and use automatic grade and slope control.

  • Understand segregation and how to prevent it due to the operation of the paving machine.

  • General knowledge of the hydraulic and electrical systems of the paver.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment safely and successfully.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and physical.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Having a CDL is a plus.
  • Five years of previous paving experience preferred
  • Experience in the set-up, operation, and tear-down of paving equipment is required.
  • Have general knowledge of the hydraulic and electrical systems of the paver.
  • The ability to read and understand project plans is a plus
  • Must be willing to travel, and have flexibility with start time, shift duration, and work location as these vary based on work projects
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques on the job.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong work ethic, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in all weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety and job site housekeeping.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally.
  • Positive, professional, and ability to work overtime as required, including some weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift with or without assistance.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Standing/working on feet for extended periods and walking across uneven terrain, climbing up and down ladders and stairways
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, etc.
  • Frequent exposure to noise, dust, fuel, oil, or other chemicals.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment and any other safety-related equipment.
  • Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as required.
