Make your career here! The South Dakota Electrical Commission, a division of the SD Department of Labor & Regulation, is hiring a Senior Administrative Assistant to join their Pierre, SD team.

If you are looking for a fast-paced office role with a variety of tasks, this may be the opportunity for you! The Senior Administrative Assistant supports the Electrical Commission and its program director. The role performs high-level administrative tasks and works with a variety of internal staff and members of the public. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the main contact for answering all calls to the Electrical Commission.
  • Provides excellent customer service and answers for basic licensing, permitting, and billing questions.
  • Takes detailed phone messages and processes postal mail.
  • Performs data entry of all permits and other correspondence.
  • Screens documents against set requirements, comparing them with established references, and verifying accuracy and completeness.
  • Scans in all new documents and works on digitizing paper files.
  • Places orders with a variety of vendors.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Prior administrative support experience in a professional office setting highly preferred.

Knowledge of:
  • Business English, spelling, and punctuation;
  • basic arithmetic;
  • web-based software programs;
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.).

Skill in:
  • written and verbal communication;
  • customer service;
  • general office machines as well as computers and multi-telephone use.

Ability to:
  • understand office practices and procedures;
  • perform assigned clerical tasks readily and adhere to prescribed departmental procedures;
  • establish and implement procedures related to assigned duties within established parameters;
  • operate and perform minor maintenance on various office equipment;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public;
  • cross train with other staff members;
  • prioritize tasks and utilize self-motivation to complete assignments;
  • type accurately and proficiently.
