This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Corrections. For more information on the Department of Corrections, please visit https://doc.sd.gov/ .
Provides administrative support to the South Dakota State Penitentiary (SDSP) and South Dakota State Women's (SDWP) wardens and other staff in matters concerning application processing/reviewing, interview scheduling, checking references, on-boarding of new staff, administering UA's, coordinating the new hire fingerprint process, compiling reports for the SDSP and SDWP wardens, tracking staff credentials, manages the employee post bidding process, and works with the Department of Corrections (DOC) constituent services office on responses for offender families. There will be occasional travel to other DOC facilities across the state. The person selected for this position will perform their work in a correctional facility.
The person selected for this position must:
- successfully pass all modules of the South Dakota Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments, and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;
- possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;
- lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
- stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
- use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
- withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
- swing a baton in a striking technique;
- rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
- get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
- the person selected will also be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC spray) during Basic Training.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience in human resources or a related field and experience working directly with job applicants and new hires.
